Sustainable Wetlands at Albion Station

Albion Station has developed an innovative and sustainable landscape plan designed to protect and enhance the neighboring protected wetlands ecosystem. This new town home development preserves and feeds the wetlands by capturing it’s rainwater runoff, cleaning the water, and then redirecting water to nourish the wetlands.

Traditionally rainwater runoff is mostly discharged into a storm sewer system. This contributes to downstream flooding, erosion of natural watercourses, and allows contaminants to enter into the waterflow causing negative impacts on fish habitats.

Albion Station eliminates it’s own rain water. Captured water is directed to rain gardens or bioswales that have been incorporated into the landscape design. The absorbent landscaping filters the water and feeds native plants. It also detains water which reduces peak loading during large rainfall events. The biofiltration pond in the conservation area further improves the quality and quantity of stormwater.

This unique Stormwater Management Plan is integrated into the landscaping making Albion Station both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable. A portion of the protected wetlands and forested walking trails enhance the charm and beauty of Albion Station.
